Associate athletic director for communications Paul Helgren has been serving at the University of Toledo since 1998.

Helgren oversees communications for UT Athletics, and is responsible for a staff that handles media relations, publications, website management and new media. He is responsible for the communications efforts for all 16 UT varsity sports, and directly handles media relations and communications for the Rockets' football program.

Helgren assumed the position of assistant athletic director for media relations at UT in 1998, and was promoted to associate director of communications in 2008.

Helgren has been a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) since 1986 and has won numerous writing awards.

A 1985 graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in English literature, Helgren began his career as an assistant media relations director at Eastern Michigan University, and was later promoted to director of promotions and ticket sales. He also worked at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee as the sports information director from 1990-96 and as assistant athletic director for external operations from 1997-98.

Helgren grew up in Westland, MI and attended nearby Livonia Franklin High School. He and his wife Tammy have two sons, Michael and Andrew.
