TOLEDO, OH - Let's play ball! It's hard to imagine that the collegiate baseball season is upon us with the weather we are having outside, but it is here. The Toledo baseball team held its first full-team workout this morning in preparation for the upcoming 2012 campaign. Over the next 21 days, UT will hold 17 split practices at either Scott Park or the Fetterman.

The Rockets are loaded with talent in 2012, as they return 24 letterwinners to Head Coach Cory Mee's 2012 squad. Mee, now in his ninth season at the helm, has guided the Midnight Blue & Gold to three-consecutive Mid-American Conference Tournament appearances. Leading the way for Mee this spring will be returning All-MAC performers senior OF Ben Hammer, senior INF/DH Mark Lapikas, senior INF Joe Corfman, senior INF/DH Matt Delewski, senior RHP Matt Kuna and junior RHP Mike Hamann, along with seniors OF Jeff Cola, C AJ DeMarco, RHP Alex Radon, RHP Lincoln Rassi, RHP Tyler Scott, LHP Kyle Shaw.

In 2011, Toledo tallied a 26-29 overall mark and a 15-12 ledger in the MAC. The Rockets finished fourth in the MAC West Division, two games behind frontrunner Central Michigan in the standings and advanced to the league tournament for the fourth time in the last five years.. UT's 15 conference victories were the second-most this decade and also equaled the fifth-most all time in school history.

The Rockets will compete in 55 games this spring, with 20 contests taking place at the friendly confines of Scott Park. UT was an impressive 13-2 in home game a season ago and sports a 69-43 ledger at the corner of Parkside Blvd. and Hill Ave. over the last six seasons.

Toledo will get the ball rolling on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 17-19 when it travels to Bowling Green, KY to battle Western Kentucky. The Hilltoppers won 33 contests a season ago.
