Gold Team Emerges Victorious in Final Game of Blue-Gold Series, 1-0
TOLEDO, OH - The Gold team emerged with a 1-0 victory in Wednesday's final game of the annual Blue-Gold Series at Scott Park.
The Gold squad plated the contest's lone run in the fourth frame of the eight-inning affair to win the annual series, 2-1. They also registered a 5-2 victory in the opening game of the series.
Senior INF Mark Lapikas led off the decisive inning with a triple and scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly off the bat of freshman INF Dan Zuchowski.
Freshman RHP Alec Schmenk was credited with the series-ending win, working the opening 5.0 scoreless frames. Schmenk allowed only three hits with three punchouts. Sophomore LHP Trever Gast came on in relief and tossed the final 3.0 innings to collect the save, yielding just one hit with a pair of strikeouts.
For the Blue squad, senior RHP Matt Kuna was shouldered with the loss, yielding one run on three hits with four strikeouts in 5.0 frames.
