Release: 02/20/2010
Former Rocket Kim Kester is in her first season serving as the Rockets' graduate assistant coach. Kester's responsibilities include academic monitoring, assisting with recruiting and day-to-day duties.
"I am really happy to have Kim back with our program as our first graduate assistant," Toledo Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "She is doing a great job and is a tremendous help with everything that goes on in our program."
An Ada, MI native, Kester is a two-time second-team All-MAC honoree and posted the second-lowest single-season stroke average in school history with her 76.5 mark in her junior campaign. In that season, she led UT with six Top-5 finishes and tied for the team lead with eight Top-10 showings. She also helped the Rockets post a school-best runner-up finish at the 2006 MAC Championship.
Kester earned Team MVP honors as a senior and captured one tournament title in her career - the 2006 William & Mary Invitational. She concluded her career holding Rocket records for most rounds in a career (127) as well as most rounds (64) under 80 but those have since been broken.
On the amateur level, Kester captured the Grand Rapids (MI) Women's City Championship in 2005 and 2006. In 2005, she finished with a three-day total of eight-under 214 (76-66-72) on the par-74 layout with a course-record 66 in the second round. Kester also placed fourth at the 2005 GAM Women's Championship and reached the Sweet 16 of the 2005 Michigan Women's Amateur.
Born February 27, 1984, Kester is the daughter of Tom and Shelley Kester and has an older brother, Brian. She received her bachelor's degree from UT in recreation & leisure studies and is currently pursuing her master's degree in special education.
