Gene Swick lettered three times as UT's starting quarterback and each season (1973-75) was first-team All-MAC. He was MAC "Back of the Year" in both 1974 and 1975. As a senior he became the first and only MAC quarterback ever honored as first team all-America by a major wire service (UPI). Swick set a NCAA career total offense record of 8,074 yards and still holds numerous UT career and single season records for passing and total offense. Following the 1975 season, he was named the nation's most outstanding quarterback by the Columbus Touchdown Club and was honored by Football Roundup Magazine as "Offensive Player of the Year." He played in the Senior Bowl Game and the East-West Shrine Game in San Francisco and finished 10th in balloting for the Heisman Trophy.
