Toledo's 11 Threes Not Enough in 92-68 Loss at Big East Foe Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH - Toledo (0-2) connected for its most three-point field goals in two-plus seasons on Wednesday evening but it wasn't enough as the Rockets dropped a 92-68 decision to Big East foe Cincinnati (2-0) at Fifth Third Arena. UT connected on 11-of-21 shots (52.4 percent) from behind the arc marking the first time since Jan. 31, 2007 at Ohio that it has reached double digits in treys.

Freshman guards Jake Barnett and Stephen Albrecht led the way offensively with 21 and 19 points, respectively. Albrecht topped the Rockets' long-distance attack with 5-of-9 shooting, and Barnett connected on 3-of-4 three-point attempts. Junior F Justin Anyijong also was in double figures with 10 points, while sophomore G Larry Bastfield dished out a career-high seven assists.

Junior F Rashad Bishop scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high eight points to pace four Bearcats in double figures. Bishop was one of four Bearcats to hit double digits with freshman G Lance Stephenson tallying 16, junior F adding 14 and senior G Deonta Vaughn notching 13 points and a game-high nine assists.

Cincinnati began the first half on fine, connecting on seven of its first nine shots and jumping out to a 17-3 lead with 15:18 left in the half. Toledo began to rally though by hitting four straight three-pointers to pull within nine, 26-17, with 9:38 to go. Bishop put a stop to the Rockets' run with a rebound and a basket and scored 11 of his 13 first-half points to close out the period.

Toledo opened the second half on an 8-2 run by grabbing three straight defensive rebounds to pull within eight, 49-41. The two teams traded baskets over the next 4:04 until Deonta Vaughn hit a three-pointer to ignite 13-0 UC run and give the Bearcats a 70-49 lead.

The Bearcats out-rebounded the Rockets, 38-28, and scored 21 points off Toledo turnovers. UC shot 52.1 percent from the floor for the game compared to UT's 48.1 percent.

The Rockets now have a quick turnaround and will travel to East Lansing, MI to take on No. 2 Michigan State (2-0). Tip-off time from the Breslin Center is 6:30 p.m. with the contest being televised by the Big Ten Network.
