TOLEDO, OH - A trio of four-star recruits will join the University of Toledo women's tennis program for the 2010-11 season, head coach Tracy Mauntler announced today.
Amanda Border (Novi, MI - Novi), Chrissy Coffman (Akron, OH - Firestone) and Paula Guimaraes (Granger, IN - Granger Christian) are three of the top-ranked seniors in the Great Lakes region, and Mauntler said she is excited about their capabilities when they join the Rockets.
"[Assistant coach] Chris Clark and I believe that they can be impact players right away for us next year," she said. "This group has had lots of success during their junior careers. They are a great group of girls with endless potential. We think they all will benefit from the structured environment we provide here at UT."
TennisRecruiting.net has Border ranked as the second-best senior in the state of Michigan, and she also ranks 22nd in the region and 175th in the nation.
"Amanda is a smooth, all-court player who strikes the ball very well," Mauntler said. "She builds her points well and is not afraid to move forward to finish points."
Coffman is ranked as the second-best senior in Ohio. TennisRecruiting also has her ranked as 15th in the region and No. 126 in the country.
"Chrissy is a great competitor and a hard worker who will battle until the end," Mauntler said. "She's definitely the kind of player you want on your team."
Guimaraes (bottom right) is also highly ranked by TennisRecruiting. She is listed as the second-best senior in Indiana, 14th in the region and 124th overall in the country. She has a 54-17 career record.
"Paula is a shot-maker with loads of talent," Mauntler said. "She is a tenacious competitor and we believe that her best tennis lies ahead of her."
The Rockets tennis program is coming off of a 14-10 campaign in 2008-09 in which the squad reached the MAC Tournament semifinals. Toledo resumes its season on Jan. 23 at IPFW.
