PEORIA, ILToledo failed to win back-to-back games for the first time this season, losing to Bradley, 68-47, in the Robertson Field House. With the setback, the Rockets fall to 3-4 on the season.

The Midnight Blue and Gold hung tough with the Braves for the opening 29 minutes, but an offensive meltdown in the second half spelled doom. Toledo could muster only seven points over the final 11 minutes and suffered the 21-point loss.

UT finished the contest shooting 34.5 percent (20-of-58) from the field, including 31.0 percent (9-of-29) in the second half. The Rockets were also hindered by 20 turnovers and dominated on the boards, 52-26.

Senior Olivia Terry led Toledo with a season-high 17 points, including 15 in the first half. The Richmond, KY native finished 5-of-7 shooting the basketball from beyond the arc. She came into today’s game with a total of 15 points in the first six games this season. Sophomore Allie Clifton was the only other Rocket in double figures with 14 points.

Bradley, which led the entire contest, exploded out of the gates and scored the contest’s initial six points. The Braves’ Kelly Krumwiede sparked the early run with a pair of layups.

The home team kept up the pressure and pushed its advantage to 11-2 following five-straight points by Jenny Van Kirk at 15:20. Bradley knocked down five of its first eight shots from the floor to build the early cushion, while Toledo struggled to find the range and hit only three of its initial 11 attempts. The Rockets’ efforts were also sidetracked when senior Ta’Yani Clark picked up two fouls in the opening six minutes of the game.

Facing the early road deficit, Toledo looked to Terry to provide some spark of the bench. The Richmond, KY did not disappoint and quickly buried a pair of triples to trim the margin to 20-13 with 9:01 left.

Just when it looked like the momentum was on UT’s side, the Braves responded with three-consecutive layups to establish a 26-13 cushion and forced the Rockets into their second timeout of the half at 7:10.

Toledo came out of the timeout fired up and outscored Bradley, 15-5, the rest of the half to make the score 31-28 at the intermission. UT’s Terry spearheaded the late rally with three additional triples to make it a three-point contest.

To begin the second half, the prognosis looked good for Toledo as Clifton started to catch fire and scored 10 of its first 12 points. Unfortunately, the Rockets’ well eventually ran dry and they managed only three field goals and a free throw over the final 11 minutes in the loss.

Monica Rogers paced three Braves in double digits with 15 points and nine caroms off the bench. Skye Johnson and Van Kirk also tallied double figures and finished with 10 points and 11 points, respectively.

The Rockets will now take the next 10 days off to focus on fall semester exams before returning to the hardwood on Tuesday, Dec. 18 to face Detroit on the road. The opening tip is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Calihan Hall.
