Rockets Head to Lonestar State to Face Conference USA Foe Houston on Tuesday

TOLEDO, OH - Toledo (1-6) concludes a season-high six-game road stretch when it travels to Houston, TX on Tuesday, Dec. 4. The Rockets will take on the red-hot Houston Cougars (7-1) with the matchup being the first between the two schools in nearly 20 years.

UT is looking to snap a six-game losing streak but again will be facing a quality opponent. The cumulative record of the Rockets’ first seven opponents is an impressive 40-9 (.816), and UT’s schedule is rated the third-toughest in the country according to the Sagarin ratings.

Toledo is coming off a 78-52 setback at No. 11 Pittsburgh on Saturday. The Rockets led for the majority of the first half, including a 21-14 advantage with nine minutes remaining. The Panthers scored the final six points of the half though to take a 34-28 lead. Pitt held UT without a field goal for the final three minutes of the first half and the first six minutes of the second half.

Junior guard Tyrone Kent was the only Rocket to score in double figures with 22 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists. Kent is leading the Rockets and ranks second in the MAC with 19.0 points per game with Amos also scoring in double figures at 12.6 points per contest. Young is leading UT with 5.9 rebounds per game, in addition to ranking third on the team with 8.0 points per game.

The Rockets’ six-game losing streak is its longest since dropping six in a row from Jan. 5-22, 2000. The last time UT lost seven in a row was from Feb. 5-22, 1992.

Houston posted its sixth straight victory on Saturday with an 83-68 win over Middle Tennessee State. The Cougars are unbeaten in five home games this season and have a 13-1 mark in their last 14 contests at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Senior Robert McKiver led the way in the win over the Blue Raiders with 32 points and tied his own school record of nine three-point field goals. He connected on six straight treys during a five-minute stretch in the first half to open up a close game.

As a team, Houston made a season-high 16 triples and shot a season-best 53% from behind the arc.

McKiver is one of three Cougars averaging in double figures with 20.9 ppg. Houston is shooting 39.4 percent as a team from three-point range and has four players topping the 40.0 percent mark.

ABOUT HOUSTON: The Cougars are averaging 80.0 points per game and are connecting for 10.8 three-point field goals per game. Senior Robert McKiver leads UH’s attack with 20.9 ppg and a 40.9 3PTFG% (36-of-88).
