Toledo Inks Three Recruits During Early Signing Period
The signees are Lindsay Baker (Warsaw, IN - Warsaw Community High School), Olivia Braun (Racine, WI - St. Catherine's High School) and Sophie Reecher (Byron, IL - Byron High School).
"I'm excited about the potential of the three players we're bringing in," Cullop said. "Lindsay, Olivia and Sophie will fit very well into our style of play and will fill an immediate need."
A 5-foot-11 guard, Baker averaged 14.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.6 steals per game as a junior at Warsaw Community High School. She shot 45 percent from beyond the arc and 84 percent from the charity stripe, guiding her team to a 16-5 overall ledger. For her production on the court, the two-time team captain was named Conference Player of the Year, as well as being selected to the Indiana Junior All-Star Team and the IBCA All-State Squad. An excellent student in the classroom as well, Baker is a member of the National Honor Society and maintains a 12.0 grade-point average on a 12.0 scale.
"Lindsay is a terrific three-point shooter and possesses a great basketball IQ," Cullop said. "I love the fact she communicates so well on the court."
Added Spiece Gym Rats AAU Coach Gil Farley, "Lindsay is an extremely hard worker with a very high basketball IQ. She is a natural leader on the floor, has deep shooting range and is a complete player."
A 6-foot-1 guard/forward, Braun (pronounced Brown) averaged 12.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 3.2 blocked shots and 3.1 steals per game as a junior at St. Catherine's High School. For her efforts on the hardwood, she was selected second-team all-conference and honorable mention all-county. The 2011-12 team MVP produced four triple-double outings this past season, helping the Angels finish 17-8 overall and capture a regional championship.
"Olivia is a versatile player who can play multiple positions," Cullop said. "She will be a tough matchup for a lot of teams. She has great length, speed, three-point range, shot blocking ability, sees the floor well and is a hard worker."
Added St. Catherine's High School Coach Sean Brady, "Olivia is the most versatile player I've ever coached. She has played every position on the floor for us. She can break her opponent down off the dribble, stroke an outside shot, hit a pull-up jumper, and most impressively, she can create shots for her teammates. Olivia runs the floor like a deer and can jump out of the gym, adding more stress to defensive players that have to play against her."
A 6-foot-3 forward, Reecher averaged 17.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game as a junior at Byron High School. For her production on the court, she garnered honorable mention all-state, first-team all-conference and team MVP accolades. An excellent student in the classroom as well, Reecher maintains a 3.9 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
"Sophie is a strong post player who runs the floor well and has a nice touch around the basket," Cullop said. "She also possesses 15-foot range with her shot, as well as being a good shot blocker and solid defender."
Added Byron High School Coach Eric Yerly, "Sophie's great attitude along with her work ethic make her an ideal basketball player. She has only scratched the surface of how successful she can be in basketball. Sophie lives in the gym and wants to do whatever it takes to make her better, but more importantly, her team better."
