Rockets’ Ridley Johnson to Appear on NBC’s Today Show
TOLEDO, OH – Junior guard Ridley Johnson is scheduled to appear on NBC’s Today Show next week to talk about his high school basketball experiences. The Boston, MA native is scheduled to travel to New York and appear on the show on Thursday, Dec. 27. Johnson, along with his former Charlestown High School basketball team, is the subject of a book called "THE ASSIST: Hoops, Hope, and the Game of Their Lives."
Johnson will appear along with his coach Jack O’Brien and the book’s author, Neil Swidey. The book is a story of how his coach, Jack O’Brien, pushed all of his players — poor kids bused in from African-American neighborhoods — to win four state championships, but more importantly to go on to college. The book has been compared to the documentary "Hoop Dreams" and the book "Common Ground."
Johnson has started every game for the Rockets this season and is averaging 8.7 points and 2.9 rebounds per game while playing 31.9 minutes per contest.
