Former Rocket Jared Hoying Recently Selected Northwest League Player of the Week

TOLEDO, OH - Former Rocket Jared Hoying was recently named the Northwest League Player of the Week. A member of the Class A short-season Spokane Indians, Hoying batted an impressive .375 (15-for-40) with nine runs scored, five home runs and 15 RBI over the last 10 games from Sunday-Monday, July 18-26 to earn the league's top hitting honor.

For the summer, Hoying is hitting .301 (40-for-133) with a team-leading 27 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, squad-best six home runs and 27 RBI in 34 contests. He currently ranks tied for second in the league in roundtrippers and RBI, third in runs scored and stolen bases (13), fourth in total bases (67), fifth in slugging percentage (.504), tied for ninth in hits and tied for 12th in batting average.

Hoying's hot stick has played a key role in guiding the Indians to first place in the division with a 22-16 win-loss ledger, three games better than the competition.

Hoying, who was chosen by the Texas Rangers with the 316th pick of the 10th round in the 2010 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft, started all 56 games for the Rockets this past spring and batted .289 with 49 runs scored, 18 doubles, a team-high four triples, a squad-best 14 home runs and 53 RBI. He finished the season ranked tied for fifth in the Mid-American in triples, tied for seventh in home runs and tied for ninth in total bases (138), earning second-team all-league accolades. The two-time MAC West Division Player of the Week, who collected 20 multi-hit and 13 multi-RBI efforts, became UT's all-time home run hitter (34 career home runs) with a round-tripper against Bowling Green on April 17.

The Fort Loramie, OH native also ranks third in school history in RBI (137), tied for third in doubles (46) and fifth in total bases (338), as well as tied for second in home runs (14, 2010), third in total bases (138, 2010), fourth in doubles (18, 2010), tied for sixth in RBI (53, 2010), tied for eighth in triples (4, 2010), tied for ninth in RBI (50, 2009) and tied for 10th in home runs (11, 2009) and total bases (120, 2009) in the single-season recordbook.
